WILLIAM EDWARD FROST RA (1810 -1877)

William Edward Frost was an English mythological & allegorical painter. Born at Wandsworth in 1810 he entered the Royal Academy in 1829 & in 1839 he won the gold medal.
He was greatly influenced by the works of William Etty and, after working as a portrait painter for fourteen years, abandoned the genre to follow in Etty’s footsteps. He was awarded a prize of £100 at the Westminster Hall competition of 1843, for his ‘Nymph Surprised by Faun’s.
He was elected ARA in 1846 and RA in 1871 - his diploma picture being entitled 'A Nymph & Cherub'
He died in London in 1877. His work can be seen in the V&A Museum, in London.
