WILLIAM EDWARD FROST RA (1810-1877)
‘The Syrens’ oil on board - Framed, 10x13ins

William Edward Frost was an English mythological & allegorical painter. Born at Wandsworth in 1810 he entered the Royal Academy in 1829 and in 1839 he won the gold medal.
He was greatly influenced by the works of William Etty and, after working as a portrait painter for fourteen years, abandoned the genre to follow in Etty’s footsteps. He was awarded a prize of £100 at the Westminster Hall competition of 1843, for his ‘Nymph Surprised by Faun’s.
He was elected ARA in 1846 and RA in 1871 - his diploma picture being entitled 'A Nymph & Cherub'
He died in London in 1877.
