A fine early 19th Century original longcase clock. It has a deep figure mahogany case, typical of many Scottish clocks. The hood has a swan neck pediment and side columns with brass capitals. The trunk has a long arch top door with side columns and a pannelled base with and a shaped plinth. The colourful dial has a folk history scene within the arch -John Anderson, who had a poem written about him by Robert Burns, it has scenes from the different continents in the corner paintings. The dial is signed by the makers James Leithead of Galasheils, who is listed as a maker in 1836. It has an 8 day movement that strikes the hours on a bell.
The case has been re-polished and waxed finished, the dial professionally cleaned and the movement has been serviced in our own workshops and is guaranteed for 12 months.
