A charming scene depicting a woman and daughter with their dog, walking towards a man who is leading a team of heavy horses with a cart laden with a large heavy tree trunk. Good attention to detail with sheep and birds against a distant landscape.

Signed and dated lower right 95, titled verso ‘Above the misty falls near Grange Cumberland’ Presented within its original and unusual glazed deep set wood frame with gold mount.

Size to include frame: H30.5cm L37.5cm
He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, he was elected to the RBA in 1893.

William Manners was a painter of landscapes and rural genre in oils and watercolours. Born in Bradford, he lived in that area until around 1900, later moving to Westmoreland and the Lake District. The countryside proved subjects for many of his landscape studies.
