A most unusual kingwood and tulipwood veneered desk of serpentine and bombe shape. The whole has
decorative effect of the inlay disguises the fact the maker was most probably provincial and has used very little bronze mounts. The cartouches frame fine parquetry and marquetry work. The upper-section has a fully fitted desk cabinet or cartionnier, with secret cupboards either
side of a tessellated floor. The fall front desk has a fully fitted interior, with three long drawers below. The first long drawer has fitted compartments with a central mirror. The bottom drawer opens out completely including the apron, which is in the manner popular in the 1750’s.
