The exceptional craftsmanship of this English Pembroke table exemplifies the artistry and elegance of the Chippendale style. Crafted of Cuban mahogany, the table displays all of the aesthetic hallmarks of Thomas Chippendale's iconic designs. Of exceptional quality throughout, the perfectly proportioned table boasts hinged flaps that can be lowered when not in use. As beautiful as it is functional, its serpentine lines and delicately pierced cross stretcher give this table a sense of depth and architectural grace.

The exceptional piece recalls almost exactly Thomas Chippendale's 1762 design for a breakfast table. During an age when breakfast was fashionably taken in the bedroom, such tables were designed to be stored against the wall when not in use. Additionally, the central drawer provided storage from breakfast utensils. A similar piece by Chippendale's hand is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum (London).

A nearly identical design for can be found in The Gentleman & Cabinet Maker's Director, 1762, by T. Chippendale, plate LIII.
