"Joanna.NiXons.sampeller.and by this you may se' what my parents hath done for mee" "1789" This rather wonderful sampler was worked by Joanna NIxon in 1789, and includes a number of unusual details, including the words "The three sisters" and "The three brothers" (likely to be the names of two ships) above two sailing ships, which appear to have cannon. Between the ships are three small colourful figures standing above a red-brick house with crenellated wings, with a polka-dot stag on either side, and two tiny lions above. English, late 18th century. Height 18 3/4" (47.6cm) Width 14 3/4" (37.5cm)
