A flemish silk and wool tapestry depicting psyche and the sleeping cupid in the garden of a rural house with architectural fountain.
Probably Audenarde from the early 18th century.
The red cloak of psyche is particularly striking, as well as the composition of the piece.
Previous alterations resulted in the tapestry being reduced by approximately 30cm to the top. The remaining tapestry has been folded beneath the top boarder. The silk used in the sky has worn a little, but is expected from something of its age. The tapestry has been relined in the early to mid twentieth century.
