Original vintage travel advertising poster published by Victorian Railways Australia: See the new Zoo – Go by Fast Electric Train to Royal Park Stn. Take a Kodak. Fantastic design by the renowned poster artist James Northfield (1887-1973) showing a large pink flamingo with the letter Z stylised to form its beak and neck and the two letters O positioned over its body in shades of white and pink with a smaller image featuring monkeys on the ramp in front of their Art Deco building, one sitting on top of the flag post, and an elephant on the right giving rides to Zoo visitors, all against a black background with the text above and below in stylised blue letters with the Victorian Railways logo at the bottom. The oldest zoo in Australia, Melbourne Zoo was opened in 1862 at Royal Park, modelled on London Zoo.
Good condition, folds, minors restored tears and creases in margins.
