Original vintage travel advertising poster in French for the Express Afrique du Sud / South African Express steamships "Duilio" and "Giulio Cesare" operated by the Italian Line - Genes. Colourful artwork by the graphic artist Giovanni Patrone (1904-1963) depicting a young African lady wearing a green dress and traditional jewellery and carrying a large round jar on her head, standing by flowers in the foreground with a steam ship on the horizon against a bright yellow background and the stylised text below. The Italian Line (Italia di Navigazione; 1932-2002) operated transatlantic passenger and freight shipping services from its base in Genoa Italy; the company was acquired by CP Ships / TUI, which then merged with Hapag-Lloyd. The SS Duilio (launched 1921) and her sister ship the SS Giulio Cesare (launched 1920) were the largest Italian ocean liners of their time; both served the International Red Cross during World War Two and were scrapped after being hit by Allied aircraft in Trieste in 1944.
