Flemish carved statue of Saint Bavo (622–659). He is depicted here seated with his falcon on his knee. St Bavo is the patron Saint of Ghent and Lauwe in Belgium and Haarlem in the Netherlands. He had been a rich man who converted to live a very frugal life as a monk, spending lots of time living in a tree trunk in a forest near the Abbey.
