The whistle top with hanging loop and safety chain in the form of a double headed Egyptian Sphinx is removable to reveal the whistle. The case with laurel leaves and recumbent sphinx to the bowl and acanthus leaf decoration and Scottish thistle finial. The whistle appears to be an item of full dress uniform worn by the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), which was formed in 1881 under the Childers reforms by the amalgamation of two other regiments, the 26th Cameronian regiment of Foot & the 90th Perthshire Light Infantry (disbandment in 1968). The whistle is representing a battle in Egypt, Alexandria 1802.
