Important and rare French vase, circa 1880 signed.
Emile Gallé (May 4, 1846-September 23, 1904) , is rightly considered the most important master glazier in the history of glass. The techniques applied in his ateliers are numerous and complex. In the first period, from 1874-1884, known as "transparent", ornamental and historical subjects painted enamel, in the Arab and Persian manner, prevailed, which allowed, with the combined use of glossy glazes and glasses decorated with opaque glazes, to obtain similar lighting effects to the windows. Thanks to his recipe book of coloring oxides (iron, manganese, copper, chrome) he obtains glasses with completely original color effects.
Our rare vase for sale belongs to this first period of creation called transparent glass. The green transparent glass vase is painted with polychrome enamel and gold. Decorations of thistles very often used by Gallé during this period.
he follows courses in botany; his love for nature pushes him to pick herbs and flowers in the rich forests of Lorraine and Vosges, from Alsace to the Italian and Swiss Savoy Alps.
Of extreme historical importance is the cross of Lorraine painted with enamels on the back.
Always attentive and passionate about the problems of his land, Gallé cares about the fortunes of Alsace and Lorraine, so he began in 1877 to incorporate the cross of Lorraine in his works, as a protest to the consequences of the Franco-Prussian war.
Under the important signature basis. Emile Gallé déposé. Signed used between 1877s and 1889s
