A charming painting depicting two beautiful gypsy girls and a small child with fruit.

It is quite refreshing to find and Edward Robert Symthe watercolour as it demonstrates the true skill of this famous artist. With watercolours there is no second chance to cover a mistake as with an oil.
Signed in pencil lower left, minor very faint foxing barely visible. Presented within a plain gilt wood frame with cream washline mount, artists name and dates inscribed lower centre.
This watercolour will prove a joy to own.

Size including frame: H54.2cm L43.7cm
This came from Bonham’s sale of the Reydon Hall contents in 2011 which was owned by the Legrys family, two brothers that built up a large turkey business and on occasions dealt with my father who bred turkeys on the 1950’s,60’s,70’s.
The brothers acquired a large collection of fine paintings, predominantly Suffolk school and the Symthes.
Smythe specialized in seascapes and marine subjects. He exhibited at the RA and RSMA and was a keen sailor himself. He was elected to the society of marine artists in 1949.
