A large late 19th century South German or Austrian majolica-faience stove or kachelofen in the Rococo style. Built in nine sections of typical Bombe format, fired in white with light blue floral decoration, complete with iron firebox door and opening to retrieve ash, supported on four baluster legs. It is full round so can be stood away from the wall and there is a 8 x 12 cm opening at the rear for the chimney. For sake of accuracy and backed by the research we did, we date it late 19th century(1880) but it could be earlier. Good condition, a couple of chips to the white glaze in the middle section; The finial has been broken and restored. Impressive statement piece, rare, displays very well in both contemporary and period interiors and can actually be used. These type of stoves are very efficient and fuel economic room heaters as the heated air is retained in the various chambers delaying the exit up the chimney, heating the walls of the whole stove from whence the heat radiates into the room.
