This is an English artist's/ draughtsman’s chair from the late 19th century with adjustable backrest and swivel seat. Stamped with 'Glenister High Wycombe' numbered 43, this chair features its original rexine upholstery.

Glenister of High Wycombe was founded by Daniel Glenister in 1839. He was, at the time, a publican and if the local chairmakers couldn’t pay their tab at the bar, they made up chairs out of spare parts for him, which he then sold. This sideline soon became more profitable than the pub giving birth to the company. Glenister’s took orders for the Ministry of Supply and were based in Queen’s Square, High Wycombe.

The lowest seat height is 18in and the highest seat height is 21in.
