A beautifully turned Shibayama box and cover with exquisite detailing. The lid depicts two gold crane birds amongst mother of pearl chrysanthemum, flowers and foliage, surrounded by insects and butterflies with a flying crane bird in the distance. Areas of detailing Coral and possibly Jade.
The body depicts swift/swallow birds, bees and butterflies amongst leafy foliage and flowers, all of which have been finely crafted in gold, mother of pearl, coral, green (possibly Jade) and brown stone.
The underside of the lid depicts gold leafy vines and aster plant surrounded by a bee and dragonfly.

This is the first time that this fabulous piece has been on the market since it was purchased new by predecessors of a well known Norfolk family.

Discolouration can be seen in the photographs, otherwise good, no losses.
