Pair of Gilded Lions on Red Veined and Black Marble Bases
19th century Grand Tour Souvenirs.
The originals were carved by Giovanni Bonazza in porphyry in 1722 and were the
gift to Venice by the Doge Alvise Mocenigo 111 to commemorate his accession.
They are to be found in the Piazzetta dei Leoncini, next to St.. Mark’s Square.
Lions are the symbol of the city of Venice.
