Victorian Period Specimen Cabinet

About the Item

This fine piece of furniture was crafted for the housing of specimens either scientific or esoteric. The many small drawers can house medals, silverware, stamps or any common collectibles that needs protection and display space. The cabinet made circa 1860 is early in the period and well crafted from choice mahogany woods. The wood selection was made to take advantage of the shape of the doors and helps to further enhance the Gothic revival door panels. The top features an original red leather center with gilt tooling around the outer border set within a crotch mahogany framework. The piece contains 20 drawers of varying sizes enclosed within the two outer doors. Retaining its original finish and color the patina is nice and rich but mellow and is ready to use.
