This Anglo-American wall clock from circa 1870 is housed in a particularly beautiful walnut case which is embellished with decorative carvings. It has a wonderful scalloped head around the clock surrounds. This is intricate work and lost as case-making approaches the 20th century.

The dial, made of zinc is hand-painted and signed by the retailer Russell of Kingstown. James Russell, Watch and Clockmaker is noted as working at 87 George's St. in Watch and Clockmakers in Ireland by William Galland Stuart. Russell is noted as being gone from Kingstown in 1874.
Kingstown later became Dun Laoghaire, a borough in the city of Dublin.

The eight-day mechanism is a New Haven 9 1/4 model, a very reliable and robust clockwork. This clock will strike the hours on a bell.

Visually a beautiful clock, the colour and tone of the walnut case is very striking. From an Irish point of view it is a little piece of our history to have the old name for the present town of Dun Laoghaire on the dial.

As with each clock from Timepiece in Dublin, this clock will be sold in fully mechanically restored condition.
