This dramatic marine watercolour shows a sailing ship about to be dashed against the rocky shore. Looking at this fine little painting, one could be forgiven for assuming that this is by JMW Turner, such is the quality and drama created by a few most skilful artists. A superb little painting in totally original condition, painted around 1840. Original gilt gesso frame with grey mount. Signed lower left.

Size to include frame: H32.3cm L37.5cm
