A fine example of a Fruitwood Knitting Sheath, carved out of one piece of wood and decorated with roundels,tree of life & punch work, initialled V E. These were used to put the third needle in, when some forms of Knitting required three needles, it was placed in the end of the sheath, & then the sheath would be tucked under the arm or placed in a belt.
Welsh. C 1780-1800
Original with an excellent patina.
