The jacket is handstitched, with the top being padded and quilted, the gilt embroidery denoting the status of the officer. The buttons, all original, bear a crown above the insignia of the 57th (West Middlesex) and the name "ALBUHERA" within a border of laurel leaves and are back marked "C.Pitt & Co. 50 St. Martins Lane London, and the collar carries the Lt Colonel's insignia of a Crown and Star. The back of the jacket is a short tail coat with regimental buttons ornamenting the tails. The elaborate trimming, in original gilt thread, would have been sewn by hand.
This uniform was made for Lt Colonel A A D Weigall, who was gazetted Lt Colonel on November 28 1876, and who died during the Regiment's campaign on the North West Frontier.
