The watch has clear hallmarks for London 1752
The case is 20-22K gold. It has no assay marks or stamps for gold.
The watch works well and keeps excellent time but please do not expect quartz like accuracy from a 260 year old watch
Movement – the top quality gilt full plate fuse movement has a cylinder escapement with a gilt escape wheel. The movement has a beautiful gilt pierced watch cock with a non symmetrical foot and set with a large diamond in a steel setting. The movement has a silver regulator disc and is signed “Jn Ellicott, London” # 3738. The movement is in 95% mint condition – some small scratches around plate pins
The movement has its original gilt dust cap signed “Jn Ellicott, London” # 3738.
Inner case – the original gold inner case has maker's marks for JB, clear hallmarks and is numbered 3738. The case has its original stem but the bow however has been replaced
The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 80% mint condition – a very light groove from the outer and a replaced bow
Case – the movement comes in its original matching outer. The case has a smooth plain finish and is in 75% mint condition – the button has a little hole and there is a long bruise on the back – see the images
Dial – the white enamel dial has original blue steel beetle and poker hands and is in 95% mint condition – a tiny hairline near the catch.
