30 hour longcase clock with the name Giles Coates, Chedworth on the 11" square white painted face. The case which is of ash and mahogany is 192 cms tall.

Giles Coates junior, born 1783, was the son of Giles Coates of Northleach. Giles had his business in Chedworth, but he was caught poaching and he accidentally shot the gamekeeper. He fled to London but was caught a year later and transported to Van Diemen's land (Tasmania) in 1834. The ship on which he was being transported floundered in the harbour and he was said to have drowned. However, a Giles Coates established a clock shop in Hobart Bay in 1834.
