The chairs of blackwood, ( Dalbergia latifolia ), the high shaped backs with deeply carved pierced borders of scrolling palm leaves, framing upholstered panel backs,
the low, tapered seats with upholstered drop-in seats, on leaf carved cabriole front legs and scroll feet, the upholstered back panels and seats covered in nineteenth century needlework.
Examples of blackwood furniture were shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851, and at following major international exhibitions, including the Paris 1855 Universal Exhibition.
