A fine 19th century cast bronze sculpture of of a lion with its front left paw holding a ball. Finely cast and patinated, raised on a rosso marble base.

The powerful symbolism of this bronze casting is one of power and control. The male lion stands boldly, his paw stopping the ball from rolling. This western symbolism is taken directly from Chinese Foo Dogs, Shi (Imperial Guardian Lion) which are also depicted in the same manner.
