An eight light "S" arm chandelier retaining its original engraved storm shades. The use of vertical glass rods surrounding the stem is a signature of Osler. This technique was created to remove the classical association of festooning that many chandeliers used until this date. This style was used firstly for candlelight followed by gas and later electricity.
F & C Osler was founded in Birmingham in 1807. After a slow start the business was boosted by an order from Ibrahim Pasha for two monumental candelabra to be placed by the tomb of the prophet Mohammed in Mecca. Following this a display at the Great Exhibition of 1851 introduced them to many Indian Maharajas and the business flourished.
