The top of this table was made in the Late Regency Period and was made circa 1825. The base was constructed at the end of the 19th century and its form relates specifically to George I designs from circa 1725. The decoration is excellent throughout and such a table would have formed a centrepiece in a room.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Chinese lacquer captured the imaginations of collectors throughout Europe and America. European furniture makers were so inspired by Eastern furniture decoration that they adorned there own furniture with Oriental motifs. This table is an excellent example of this tradition at work.
