A fine late 19th century pair of ormolu candelabra in the Louis XV rococo manner, having three candle arms of scrolling foliate form, with shaped drip pans and socles, mounded upon backplates of the same.

The Rococo Period experienced several revivals particularly during the 19th century with the demands of the bourgeois class and under Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie whose rococo taste and stylistic references to Louis XV were indicative of their assertion of power and place within Society and the Court. Subsequently, Parisian artisans responded to their stylistic demands by producing lavish furniture and metal works in bronze and ormolu. Owing to the industrialisation of the period, metalwork in the Rococo style such as these candelabra was now more widely available than during the reign of Louis XV when it had been the preserve of the aristocracy.
