A late 19th century vase of baluster form and decorated with an iron rust or red tea dust glaze.

‘Tea dust’ glazes were first produced in the kilns at Shaanxi and Henan during the Tang dynasty. The iron rich glaze was fired at a higher temperature than the generic tea dust glaze and was allowed to cool down very slowly. Its evenly speckled exterior reflects a slightly oily tint.
