An early 19th century Regency Period giltwood convex mirror, the circular concave frame set with balls and an ebonised reeded slip.

The Regency Period convex mirror is one of the best loved forms in English furniture. These mirrors became fashionable in the early 1800s as their novel reflective properties added theatre to interior decoration. The simplicity of the design is very much a part of the Neo-Classical ethos and takes its inspiration from the Roman oculus (the best known example being the circular window in the centre of the dome of the Pantheon in Rome).
