André Gisson was an American painter working in the United States and Europe. He changed his name from Gittelman to Gisson and set back his birth date to 1910 to seem more distinguished and aged.

He was influenced by the French Impressionists, studying Monet, Pissarro, Degas and the rest of the most famous French Impressionists’ canvases in Paris.

Gisson is known for painting beach and street scenes, landscapes, coastal views, still life’s and portraits with broken brushwork and a high-key palette. Gisson's landscapes and beach scenes create a reflective mood of serenity. This is also true of his portraits and of the manner in which he handles the human element.

Several of Gisson's paintings have been published and many are in important collections in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and France.
