A carved giltwood rococo mirror with excellent proportions, the cresting of a stylized acanthus carved with rocaille with c-scrolls and s-scrolls decorating the sides and the bottom. Having an 18th century, but not original mirror plate.
Rococo looking glasses were not all light and airy. Some looking glasses, like this example, have a highly textured surface that "reads" as a constantly flowing surface, not allowing the eye to sit in one area without it being taken to the next. The appearance is initially heavier but in candle or dimmer light has a more nuanced look than mirrors that are more pierced and delicate.
