Hunting Horn mark in iron red

Both pieces decorated with two pomegranates on a branch and paulownia leaves. There is no Japanese original of this form of peach-shaped cup and saucer, the form loosely derives from a Chinese original either of Yixing stoneware or soapstone, whilst the decoration is taken accurately form Japanese decoration.

The brilliant strong colours set against the milky white tin glaze is characteristic of the early period at Chantilly around the period of the granting of the privilege in 1735.
Private collection.
