An important late 17th century Dutch striking ebony veneered table clock by John Wise, having a cushion domed top with exceptional quality lifting handle, finials and central mount above glazed front and sides with later sound fret; on a moulded base terminating in bun feet. The 9 in dial with Roman numerals on a silvered chapter ring with Arabic minutes and a slotted lever below VI, having a beautifully matted centre retaining the original handles and flanked by superb quality spandrels. The twin fusee movement retains the original crown wheel and verge escapement. The clock maintains power with a bolt and shutter system activated via a slotted lever through the dial. The backplate is signed ' John Wise Londini fecit'.

Note: This outstanding table clock is part of a small group of similar timepieces sharing the same larger 9 in dial. It compares to clocks by Joseph Knibb and Thomas Tompion.
