Almost certainly made by a man schooled in the craft of making walnut bureaux! Although in early 'Cuban' mahogany, it exactly follows the lines and dictums of a walnut veneer piece but is in veneered mahogany. The fall front has solid cross grain mouldings, rounded corners and a moulded book rest; the interior is very baroque, with no well but secret drawers behind the centre door; there are just three deep drawers with chamfered lock recesses and rounded drawer sides, framed by applied carcass mouldings.
In superb condition throughout. Original handles and metalware, through to the gilded domed nails on the secret drawers.
