A wonderful mid 19th century Qing dynasty Chinese brass-mounted pewter tureen or serving dish in the form a duck, the whole with beautiful engraved decoration. Inside can be found a removable dish. Both this dish and the base with the maker's mark which translates to read: "Wang Can Hai, Qian Men Wai, Peking". The beak and feet highlight in polished brass, as are a pair of shaped carrying handles on the base. A fantastic object of superb quality.

Qian Men Wai is the name of an important street next to the Forbidden City.
