An extremely fine and beautifully decorated Derby porcelain soup plate painted by William Billingsley. The plate has a lobed rim with a gilt band. It stands on a shallow foot-rim also painted with a gilt band.

The broad flange has a mid blue ground with inticate oeil-de-perdrix pattern within a gilt mesh design, in the Sevres style. Three kidney shaped reserves enclosed within bands of chased gold are painted with small groups of deep pink roses on a white ground. The centre of the plate has a finely painted larger group of roses with a scattering of smaller bouquets.

Twenty of these plates were sold from this service by His Grace The Duke of Northumberland

Marks: Jewelled crown over cross batons, six dots and script D in puce. Gilders numeral 1 for Thomas Soar.
