This superb George III period mahogany serpentine front chest of drawers has an overhanging shaped top with caddy moulded edge, four long graduated drawers, the top one fitted with brushing slide, dressing mirror, compartments and dividers with a secret inkwell holder pullout. The canted corners are stop-fluted and inlaid with ebony, the whole on finely shaped bracket feet.
The secret drawer retains the original glass bottle containing iron filings, these were sprinkled on the rough parchment paper and used to smooth the surface before applying ink, they have been there since the piece was made nearly 250 years ago!!
