The upper section wit cavettto cornice over two mirrored doors opening to reveal adjustable shelves and drawers, with two candle slides. The bureau with sloping fall opening to reveal an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes with a leathered writing surface. The two short drawers and three long cockbeaded drawers all similarly veneered in burr yew and retaining the original brass handles and escutcheons. The sides also quarter veneered in burr yew. Raised on bracket feet.

Although this bookcase is of traditional form, it is made particularly rare because of the use of finely figured burr yew wood throughout. Together with this outstanding choice of wood, it has also survived in a remarkably untouched condition which has resulted in a glorious colour throughout. The handles are also original and are of a particularly unusual design.
