A Fine Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Marble Vase, In The Form of A Cassolette After The Model by Pierre Gouthière, Probably By Paul Sormani.

This vase corresponds directly to a design for a vase in the form of a cassolette produced by Pierre Gouthière for The Duc d'Aumont, c. 1775. The vase was purchased at the Duc d'Aumont sale in 1782 by Julliot for the King and was in the Louvre by 1793, then in the Tuilleries Palace in the Nineteenth Century. In 1826, it was recorded in the first salon of the State Apartments.

The nineteenth century maker of 'meubles de luxe', Paul Sormani is known to have produced a number of examples after the Duc d'Aumont's vase.
