This very elegantly proportioned balloon mantel clock is by Edward Ellicott Jnr., the grandson of John Elicott Jnr. of this eminent family of clockmakers. Edward Jnr. carried on his father's business on his death in 1791, and became Master of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers 1834. This clock dates from c.1795, a time when balloon clocks were at their most popular.

The mahogany case stands 20 inches high to the brass ball finial which is mounted on a plinth with ebonised ridged edge. The sweeping case has delicate stringing to the border, with a satinwood band and inlaid urn.

The quality 8 day fusee timepiece movement has an anchor controlled escapement and shaped plates, with a replaced long cylindrical bob pendulum.

The 6 inch painted dial shows all the signs of being entirely original and unrestored. It is signed Ellicott, Royal Exchange, London.

The price includes a full overhaul, 3 year guarantee and delivery within the mainland UK.
