A Fine Oval Kingwood Three Tier Gueridon, each graduated oval shelf surmounted by a pierced rim gallery, supported by an octagonal central column, on three serpentine legs, each with a scrolling acanthus leaf terminal.

This form of gueridon is based on a model conceived by the marchand-mercier Simon Phillipe Poirier around 1770, and which was executed by Martin Carlin, maitre in 1776.

Kingwood was a pre-eminent cabinet wood in France, so popular with Louis XIV and Louis XV that it became known as kingwood. Native to Brazil, it is similar to rosewood although somewhat paler and finer.
