Stamped CIYM, Claude Javoy maitre 1779

Claude Javoy became a master of carpentry and cabinet making in Paris in 1779 and had his workshop on rue d’Argenteuil until 1783, when he moved to Nantes. His prestigious name as a Parisian artisan secured him numerous commissions during his career for an important clientele.

Javoy introduced Parisian style furniture to Nantes and secured himself important commissions in the area. His success made him some enemies and he was taken to court by the Nantes Corporation who wanted him to retrain in their city. Javoy managed to finally win the case in 1787 and continued his work in Nantes.
