A fine pair of bronze and gilt bronze sculptures both signed F Barbedienne and Ele Guillemin.
Each in the form of a standing Japanese female figure in a kimono, one embroidered with prunus, the other with Aranes, one with a fan in her hand, the other with a spray of prunus blossom, each upholding five later candle arms in the form of lilies.
Both sculptures are on a pair of shaped onyx plinths with gilt bronze beading.

On a circular base, drilled for electricity.
Emile Coriolan Hippolyte Guillermin was born in 1841 and made his debut at the salon in 1870. His oeuvre was varied but specialised in heroic and exotic genres paying great attention to detail and accurate costumes in his figurative subjects. The realism in his figures , particularly his bronzes, was aided by his remarkable chiseling and use multi-patina colours. He died in 1907.
