Their heads turned in alertness, with beady black eyes with stippled pink cheek patches, the iron -red beaks dotted in gilt and their bright yellow claws marked in sepia, folded wings and long tail-feathers enamelled in a bright array of famille rose colours. The back of the heads picked out in yellow and iron red markings with the breasts shaded iron red, rockwork bases marbled in grisaille and pale sepia. The female on the left more rounded in its modelling, the male on the right stood tall on guard. These figures represent the finest and most natural models of pheasants made and would have been at the top of the price range available to the private merchant.
One plume with chip to end filled and repainted.
An almost exact pair sold at Christie's New York 26th January 2006, lot 45.
