Linke Index number: 126.
Linke Title: Gaine Louis XV galbée, marquetrie de couleur.
This elegant pair of kingwood pedestals are of bombé shape with fine gilt-bronze mounts and floral marquetry inlay. Each pedestal is surmounted by a shaped marble top and raised on splayed legs with scroll feet.
This model of pedestal was first created by Linke as early as 1885 and is almost certainly one of the pedestals sketched in his first Daybooks.
Christopher Payne illustrates an almost identical pedestal to the present examples in his book 'François Linke 1855-1946, The Belle Époque of French Furniture', p. 40, pl. 32. It displays identical gilt-bronze mounts and similar floral marquetry inlay to the front panel and differs only in having cubed parquetry panels to the sides.
