Modelled as a young 15th Century young mandolin player

Paul Dubois was a French sculptor, and former pupil of Armand Toussaint. He inspired himself with the Renaissance sculptures of Italy and soon became popular in Europe for the quality of his bronze sculptures. The sculpture of 'Le chanteur Florentin' awarded him the medal of honour at the Paris Salon Exhibition in 1865.
