xxxii, 292pp, full contemporary calf, smooth spine divided into six panels by gilt rules, lacks title label to second panel, remaining panels with gilt central roundel, covers with inner roll and thin gilt frame inside a thick outer border, gilt roll to edges and inner dentelles, shell pattern marbled endpapers. Spine slightly faded, rubbed, especially to extremities and corners. Internally one or two pen marks to margins, engraved frontispiece is lightly browned, foxed and slightly offset, some offsetting from the three plates, but generally fairly clean. Previous owners' armorial bookplate to front pastedown, old booksellers label to rear pastedown. Three lithograhic plates, which are not called for. The first edition of 1792 was the "first published account of a Lake District walking tour", this second edition is "completely revised and the Preface rewritten. There are numerous additions ... 1000 copies of the second edition were printed of which more 500 perished in a fire" (Bicknell). Bicknell 26.2
